ArtCote Epoxy Resin Top Coat

This epoxy resin top coat has a thickness between OceanCote and DiamondCote. It is a great choice for those looking to cut project costs, since it provides a middle ground thickness with great hardness while curing a little faster than OceanCote. In addition to offering a glossy finish and extra durability, it is also much cheaper than other resin top coats.

Typical Applications consist of:

Coating or Resin Top Coats

Small and Large Artwork Pours

Doming

Mixed Media Art Top Coats

Solid Resin Coasters and Coaster Coating

Serving Boards

Suitable for Small Silicone Moulds

ArtCote is an ideal choice for those seeking a high gloss resin finish, as it was specifically designed for top coats and artist effects. With a curing time of up to 60 minutes, it dries relatively quickly while still providing a durable and UV stable top coat. As a two-part epoxy resin, ArtCote serves as a clear coating that can be used on various artworks. It is versatile enough to be applied both indoors and outdoors, remaining clear and non-yellowing under the sun's rays. Additionally, this water-resistant resin can adhere to wet or dry surfaces with ease. Offering an in-between thickness, ArtCote minimises waiting time and planning efforts required for achieving excellent results as a resin top coat.

Using raw materials from Australia and the USA, this product is proudly made in Australia

Equal parts are measured by volume (e.g., 100mls : 100mls).

Stir for 3 minutes, scraping sides and bottom of vessel as you go

Up to 70 minutes of open time at 25 degrees Celsius

Cure time of 12 hours

After 7 days, the cure is complete

It is not necessary to apply heat to top coats to remove air bubbles (although you can if you wish).

Up to 50 degrees Celsius heat resistance

Parts A and B of a kit include equal amounts of resin and hardener

Fill a clean calibrated mixing vessel with the contents, then mix thoroughly for at least three to four minutes, or until both parts are completely mixed. Scrape sides and bottom of vessel throughout mixing.

Incorporate pigments slowly by splitting the material into smaller mixing vessels.

A hair dryer, heat gun, or small butane torch can be used to enhance the release of air bubbles.

Allow the piece to cool, and gently sweep over the piece again if necessary within the working time, while holding the heat source approximately 10-15 cm away from the project.

Using tweezers, remove any dust particles, cover and cure. The ideal pouring and curing temperature is between 22 and 25ºC

Colouring ArtCote with Pigments

The use of any Just Resin pigment can be used in conjunction with this product.
Pigment pastes <10%
Pigment powders <20%
Inks <10%
Glitters <10%

Considerations When Using ArtCote

Adjusting the resin to hardener ratio does not have an impact on cure time. To prevent the formation of air bubbles, stir the material slowly. If mixing is done inadequately, it can result in problems during curing. Allowing combined epoxy to sit in a mixing vessel for an extended period may speed up curing and trigger an exothermic reaction. In situations where relative humidity surpasses 80%, the cured product's surface might absorb moisture, leading to a non-glass-like finish. Thus, we recommend utilising a fully controlled environment when applying coatings under these conditions.

Storing ArtCote

You can store this product for more than 12 months in its original container, with the lid tightly closed. Store it in a dry dark room/cupboard at a temperature between 15 and 30oC, out of direct sunlight. Crystallisation may occur if the materials are stored at temperatures below 15oC for a prolonged period. To reduce viscosity and facilitate air release, condition both parts of the material at 25-30ºC.
